Google Punches Microsoft in the Face

Google has joined browser operators Opera and Firefox in the fight against Microsoft. They're claiming that because Microsoft includes its own browser -- Internet Explorer -- in software packaging, it's reducing consumer choice and and giving it an unfair advantage over other browsers.

I can see where the whole packaging issue gives IE an advantage -- it's already there when people get Windows, so why not use it? But I don't know how much it ultimately reduces consumer choice. I use Microsoft Windows, but I prefer using Firefox and Chrome over IE. So I do. I'm not forced to continue using IE if I don't want to.

I guess my point is I know plenty of Microsoft users who don't use IE. If people don't want to use it, they don't have to. You can argue that some people out there (the 'uninformed' computer/internet user maybe) don't realize they can switch browsers. I'm not sure how much I buy into that. Firefox is everywhere on the web.

I love Firefox and Google, but I think people are always trying to make Microsoft a villain. Here, I don't think they are. I use Firefox and Chrome and love em. Nor do I think I'm an internet nerd, though that is pretty debatable right now. I think what Microsoft does is no different from Dell including all those stupid manuals, trial programs, and security center programs on your cpu when you buy it. now that's a crime because I hate em.
